Discipline: Road
Dream bike: My bike. Which happens to be a sexy carbon Blue brand AC1 with a green/white/black paint job.
Why I ride: I’ve been riding since I was 17 so it’s a part of my lifestyle at this point, whether I’m training and racing or just riding for fun and exercise. I started riding as a practical way of getting around and as a way to stay active every day, but fell in love with the subculture and the sport. I race because I love the adrenaline rush and the competition. Hills rock.

Disciplines: CX, road, and long joyrides.
Dream Bike: A custom built, steel, mint green touring bike with all the fixins.
Why I ride: I guess it really boils down to escapism and endorphins. It all started with my first true love, the 2011 Redline Conquest Sport, my first real “road” bike and current commuter/cx machine. I’ve spent a good amount of time just staring at that bike and dreaming of where I could go with her. The versatility of that bike has allowed me to adventure far away on the road and tear through gravel, mud, and recently the Bilenky Junkyard CX race, which confirmed my interest in racing CX this coming season. I became even more obsessed with riding on two wheels when I rented an entry level racing bike in Spain for two months. That’s when I fell in love with road biking, climbing mountains, and going fast. I am excited to see how introducing a competitive twist on cycling will push me mentally and physically in a new way.

Discipline:
Triathlon/Duathlon
Dream bike:
Perhaps the Trek Speed Concept 9.5 in Lunar Orange that I will tackle this season with
Why I ride:
To be a better triathlete (so as not to wreck in a race and so roadies don’t tease my poor handling), to be the best athlete I can be. To see what my body is capable of. For the love of two wheels and a solid frame under me. I also teach stationary bike classes because I like sharing my passion for biking. I think a bike can be empowering–as a mode of transportation, as a source of fitness.

Discipline: Road
Dream bike: Keep your fancy equipment away from me; I will break it.
Why I ride: I manage an insulin condition with cardio exercise, and I find outdoor sports to be much better on the self-esteem than spending long hours on some random cardio machine in the gym. (Besides, the gym is for strength training!)

Dream bike: Neon green fixie. Still have yet to get a commuter bike (Racing > Transportation…obviously have my priorities straight)!
Why You Ride: After I got injured as a runner in high school, a coach invited me to her spin class and I was really impressed by all the 40+ year olds who were super enthusiastic about cycling. When I got to college, I spent my first big paycheck on a bike and have been riding ever since. Also, because running is irritatingly slow.

Dream bike: I just started racing last season, which is when I got my first good bike. I’m sappy, so I’m really attached to it. She’s a Ridley Asteria.
Why I ride: Riding is my metaphorical glue for keeping most things together. Plus, riding, training and racing gives me a front row seat to life.

Dream Bike: hmmm Colnago
Why I Ride: To be honest I bought a bike for a non-impact workout and then I met fun cycling people and started to race for the competitive side.

qcw cycling womenName: Ritanne O’Brien
Discipline: Primarily a triathlete, but I do a little of almost everything
Dream Bike: Any bike I am on
Why I Ride: A friend convinced me in 2007 to do a triathlon which I did on an upright hybrid and still had a blast and fell in love with the freedom of riding. Since then I have bought several bikes – tri, road, CX, mountain, and commuter & all from our awesome sponsor Breakaway Bikes – and I have ridden significantly more miles each year on them than I have spent in my car.
